We cannot see your data, because it never reaches us. There is nothing on a server to leak, to subpoena, or to sell.
What Linger stores, and where
All of it sits on your device, in the app's own storage.
- Your schedule
- The time you need to arrive, and which days you commute.
- Home
- One coordinate, used to notice when you leave.
- Destination
- The place you chose, if you set one.
- Measured mornings
- When the alarm was dismissed, when you left, how many times it rang, and what the weather was.
None of this is uploaded. There is no copy anywhere else. Deleting the app deletes all of it, and there is nothing left for us to delete on your behalf.
Location
Linger asks for location permission set to Always. It is used for one thing: a geofence around your home that reports only when you leave. That exit is what ends the measurement of your morning.
Linger does not record where you go, does not keep a route, and does not track you through the day. The single coordinate it holds is your home, and it is held on the device.
Motion
Linger asks Core Motion for your step count after a morning has finished, to find the moment you first started moving. That is how it separates time spent lying awake from time spent getting ready. Nothing is monitored live, and no motion data leaves the device.
The two services Linger talks to
Both are Apple's, and both are asked a question rather than told anything about you.
Apple Maps
Asked how long a journey takes at the hour you are leaving. Apple's privacy policy governs that request.
WeatherKit
Asked for the forecast at your home for tomorrow morning. Apple's privacy policy governs that request.
Linger has no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting service and no third-party software development kits.
Your calendar
If you turn it on, Linger reads the first event on tomorrow morning's calendar, between 4am and 1pm, so it can move your alarm for something that starts before you usually arrive. That includes Google calendars you have added to your iPhone in Settings.
It keeps one thing: that event's title, start time and place, on your device, until the morning has passed. Nothing from your calendar is uploaded or shared, and Linger never adds, changes or deletes an event. You can stop it in the app, or turn off Calendars access for Linger in Settings, at any time.
So that the alarm is right even on a night you never open the app, iOS may wake Linger for a few seconds in the evening and again overnight while the phone is charging. Each time it reads the calendar again, asks for the forecast and the drive, resets the alarm and stops. This happens on your phone; nothing is sent to us, because there is nowhere to send it.
The language model
Linger reads your record of measured mornings and writes a short note about what it found there. That note is written by a language model that runs on your phone, through Apple's Foundation Models framework.
Nothing is sent anywhere to produce it. There is no API key, no account, and no network request involved. The record it reads consists of minutes, weekday names and counts. It contains no location, no place names and no dates.
If you turn on calendar reading, the same on-device model may also read the title of tomorrow's first event, to tell a flight from a dentist appointment when the title does not say. That title stays on the phone as well.
If your device does not support Apple Intelligence, or you have it switched off, Linger writes the note itself from the same numbers. No alarm function depends on the model.
What we do not do
- We do not collect your data, because it never leaves your phone.
- We do not sell or share anything, because we do not have anything.
- We do not use your information for advertising.
- We do not build a profile of you.
Your rights
Requests to access, export or delete personal data are usually answered by a company searching its database. We have no database to search. Everything is already in your possession, on your device, and deleting the app erases it completely.
Children
Linger is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them. It does not collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that affects what Linger does with your information will also be announced in the app's release notes.
